Beauty In The Storm

Flower on MCRD San Diego

Here is a flower that was growing onboard the MCRD San Diego base.  It seems that someone might have been spray painting nearby as the leaves have some sort of white coat all over them.  I think its amazing that this flower seems to continue to give us this beautiful pose even though its been spray painted.

Dallas, TX

Bridge in Dallas, TX

While I was in Texas recently, I was in Dallas and noticed this beautiful bridge.  It was a little tricky to get to since there wasn’t any place to park nearby and get to a good location to photograph it.  I had to stop at a gas station and hike up a road nearby to get this shot.  The plan originally for this bridge and two future bridges is to build two more similar bridges nearby and when you look at them from an angle it will look like one bridge.

If you have more details about this bridge and anything else in Dallas, TX please feel free to share it with us.

Photo with David Hasselhoff

Manny Perez with David Hasslhoff

A while back I was in Las Vegas participating in the G2E show.  On the first day of the show I got to take a photo with David Hasselhoff as he was signing autographs.  I was a big fan of his work in the show Knight Rider and Baywatch

If you have a photo of yourself with someone else that is popular then let me know!

Marines On Rifle Detail

Marines

I recall when I was on my first Rifle Detail for a funeral down in Southern California.  I was a bit nervous at first and then all the people showed up for the funeral.  It was a big crowd.  Turns out it was a retired Sgt. Major and after he had retired from the Marines he volunteered or headed up the Fire Department for Twentynine Palms.  He was popular.  Well, since there was so many people in the crowd that I actually got a little more nervous.  I was able to pull myself together just like any other Marine and was able to proceed because the mission needed to get done.

This group of Marines were actually participating at the September 11 Memorial that was being held at the Pelco Campus in Clovis, CA.  I was able to take this photo of the Rifle Team.

MCRD San Diego

The Hallway at MCRD San DiegoI was recently at my brother’s graduation at MCRD San Diego last week.  I must admit that it was a great feeling to finally step foot on the MCRD base again since I graduated from it back in 1996.  Once I made it through the main gate and was free to roam around the areas I was allowed on it was nice to see how much it has changed.  I noticed so many things that I wasn’t allowed to see when I was based there in Boot Camp.  While in Boot Camp I was able to see only the barracks that I lived in, the Parade Deck and the areas that we trained in, along with an area on the other side where we worked and had Liberty for one day.

The Hallway, on your left was just one of the photos I was able to photograph while I was on the base.  Originally built in 1919 the base makes over 21,000 Marines a year and very few make it back to the Depot.  The hallway houses the offices of the Battalions that train the recruits.  These offices have lots of individuals working in them to keep track of the training of every Marine on the base.

Overall the visit to the base was truly something I have been wanting to do for a long time.  I plan on doing it again soon.  I also want to mention that I was talking to my brother’s Drill Instructor about keeping in touch with old fellow Marines and he mentioned the website, TogetherWeServed.com which allows you to create a profile that can even be linked to your facebook account and add brothers/sisters that you knew while you were in the military.  It doesn’t just refer to only Marines as it also lets you create profiles for the other armed forces of the United States.  If you haven't checked out the site yet then you need to go do it now.

Thanks for reading and if you have any comments you want to leave, please do so.

The Beetle

Beetle

Its been a while since I had a chance to share my mind on the site.  I have been busy lately where it seems that the summer is full of things that keep us on our toes.  From Birthday parties to just good ol’ fashioned BBQ’s.  And not to mention work is another thing too!

I was on my way to work today and crossed under to overpasses that cross one of the highways that I travel and noticed something that was interesting to me anyway.  On the first overpass I saw a girl riding a bicycle with another girl standing holding on to the back of the girl driving the bicycle.  On the second overpass I noticed a man running his heart out.  On the third overpass I noticed a man walking just possibly gathering his thoughts while on his way to work.  I thought about taking a photo of the event but at that time of day it can be extremely dangerous trying to take a photograph and drive on a congested freeway at the same time.

The photo of the beetle above is something that we came across that was flying around in the neighborhood and possibly just ended up dead outside the house.  It has kind of like a greenish and silvery texture to it.  If you know what type of beetle it is please let me know.

Thanks again for reading!

Here is a photo of the YoYo (or at least that is what I used to call it when I was a kid) at Six Flags Discovery Center in Vallejo, CA.

What is your favorite attraction at this park?  What is your favorite theme park?

I love the Butterfly Exhibit at this place.  It does get a little crowded on some days but there are some very beautiful butterflies that are just waiting for you to capture their photo.

The Jelly Man Lives

Jelly

Hello all!  It has been a long time!  Been too busy to post anything.  We have a lot of things going on with computer side jobs.  I did however get to go and enjoy some much needed time with the family this Monday and Tuesday.  We traveled to San Francisco to enjoy the nice cool air.  We went to see the New York Yankees play the Oakland A’s and on Tuesday we went to visit the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.  I took this photo of one of the jellyfish.

I must say the museum is amazing.  There are a lot of cool things to see.  The museum is right in the middle of The Golden Gate Park.  I don't know why there was so many people on a Tuesday but it seems that there was a lot of kids from the Boys and Girls Club.  We enjoyed it.  I also got to see the Planetarium and it is amazing how they used a dome 75 foot projection screen along with 6 projectors to give you a real life 3d experience.

If you are in San Francisco and you have a day to spare then go and visit the museum and enjoy it.

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Manuel Perez

Another Adobe Photoshop CS Version–Seriously…

image

I got an email from Adobe today and man it seems that Adobe is the most updated software out there.  It seems like everyday I have to update something on my Adobe Acrobat/CS or every other program that they come out with.  I think the world has seen enough for at least a while anyways.  Why don’t they work on fixing the current software until there aren't any new updates required then push out a new version?

I had to look this up just to be sure because I could have swore that I just got CS5 last year but no, it seems that CS5 actually came out in 2010 and then Adobe came out with an updated Extended Version that came out in 2011.  So, let me see, if we wait until 2013 or so, they might have worked out the bugs and released it with their Extended Version of CS6.

Trust me when I say that this company is just out to get people’s money but then again, who isn't.

A Dangerous Exit

Exit Sign With Icicles

While I was in Coeur d’Alene back in January we noticed a part of the building that had a small area where you could sit outside and get some air.  The area was packed with snow from the storm that had hit over the past couple of days.  I noticed this exit sign hanging from a doorway and thought if someone were to accidently come out of that door and look up…might be painful.

Abiam Alvarez

Abiam's Work

This is some work that was done by Abiam Alvarez who is my wife’s cousin.  He has some amazing detail in his work.  He specializes in Ceramic and Painting.  I did a post on him and how much do you think his work should cost but never heard back from anyone.  I would love to see if anyone else out there would like to tell me how much they would pay for this type of work.  I took this photo with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT using my Canon 28-135mm lens and studio lights.
